Ask anyone who wears makeup the question “which mascara would you recommend” and you’ll probably be surprised with how people are so devoted to a particular brand or style of mascara. When I had just started out on my ~~*makeup journey*~~ I thought mascara was one size fits all, the only choice being whether I wanted it in black or a dark brown. Boy was I wrong. I now own enough tubes of mascara that they have their own section in my makeup storage (I have a sickness but that shouldn’t be new information at this point). With so many choices: Colors (black, blackest black, black brown, brown, blue, green, purple, pink, white), lengthening, volume, lash separation, wand bristle shape and density- I mean COME ON, how is anyone supposed to choose without becoming overwhelmed?! Through a lot of trial and error my go to tube of mascara has been the Too Faced Better Than Sex tube, and for my every day makeup I think I’ve been exclusively using this particular brand for three years. But recently I was finding that it wasn’t doing it for me anymore, and perhaps that I was ready for a change.
I waltzed into my local Sephora and was lucky enough to talk to one of the wonderful women who work there who knew a lot about mascaras. I basically told her that I wanted something similar to the Too Faced tube I had come to love, but at the same time something different- my literal words were “take me on a magical journey,” and she did. I wanted a volumizing mascara that wouldn’t smudge during the day, that wouldn’t flake off of my eyelashes, and that would look good with just one coat, but wouldn’t clump if I chose to layer up for a more dramatic look.
She directed to me to what I now refer to as the best mascara I have and will ever own: BADgal Lash Mascara by Benefit Cosmetics. I’m already a big fan of the company as a whole and how they approach cosmetics, but this mascara ya’ll- holy guacamole. This particular tube of mascara will set you back $19.00, however I think it’s an amazing value for what you’re getting. The packaging and design is simple and minimalistic, which was a welcome change to some of the more elaborate and confusing mascara designs out there. It stays in place after application (weird I know, but masara that smudges all over your face is annoying and tbh shouldn’t be happening), as well as comes off easily when I go to remove it at the end of the day.
In my humble opinion (HA see what I did there?!?!) this is a win all around and if you are someone looking for a mascara that turns your eyelashes into falsies then this is he one for you!
