Sculpt Me Like One of Your Grecian Statues

I think at this point everyone and their third cousin twice removed has heard of or referenced the scene in Titanic where Rose says to Jack “draw me like one of your French girls” and then proceeds to lay down in what is now an iconic pose.

There has been a trend in the beauty community that has been gaining a whole lot of attention and buzz over the past decade called ~~contouring.~~ While I don’t claim to be an expert by any means I dabble in the fine witchcraft required to transform myself from a potato to a Grecian statue.

Literal before contour and after contour photos of me.

JK. (not really)

In my quest for a Kardashian perfect face of makeup I’ve assembled quite the collection of bronzers, highlighters, and contouring kits that I am completely in love with:

1.  Lancôme LE DUO – Contour & Highlighter Stick

So, confession time- I am a beauty addict with a credit card so I own two shades of this lovely product. Lamcôme is known for creamy, pigmented, and effortless beauty products and these lil’ contour sticks are no exception. When I say these have changed my life I mean they have ~changed~ my life, I had the unfortunate tendency to be just a smidge heavy-handed when it came to laying down the contour but with these sticks I find that I don’t have that problem as much. The two shades here are Ivoire (left) and Buff (right). Ivoire is the lightest shade stick and is more to the grey which I like when I want to do a natural contour (HAHAHAHAHA it’s like jumbo shrimp) and I use Buff when I want to look like Adele on the cover of her latest album. Both sticks are beautifully pigmented and have a creamy satin texture that lends itself to blending and soft lines. One of these bad boys will cost you $36, however it’s totally worth it and if you are looking to up your contour game this is what I would aggressively shove at your face.

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

2. Nars Albatross Blush

So you might be thinking ‘but Liz, LIZZZZZ- you said we were going to be talking about highlighters and contours not ~blushes~’ and to that I would reply shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. This is an absolutely STUNNING highlighter, as in I want to cover my entire body in it and stand out in the sun. I went into Sephora and approached one of the truly wonderful women who work there (I go to her almost exclusively for suggestions on new products) and literally said ‘I want to sparkle lie a magical unicorn, how can I make that possible?’ This highlighter builds really well so you could go for a more natural glow or go for full on pageant queen (both are valid options). The overall color is more to the gold than to the silver which can complement a summer glow really well. It blends well and is just an all around truly excellent highlighter for a wide range of skin tones. The only catch with this beautiful piece of magic is that it’ll set you back $30, however the highlighter should last you a while and if you’re like me and don’t use a ton of highlighter/forget to highlight (insert walk of shame ala Game of Thrones) it will last a good long while.

ooooooooo, is that the wrist of a magical unicorn?!?!

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

3. e.l.f. Contour Palette

Okay, so let’s have a real talk *hands you a cup of tea,* the two other products I’ve listed are pricey AF and I assume that you (the reader) are like me and are not made of money, nor do you have a tree in your backyard that grows fifty dollar bills. But like real talk if you do then we should talk because I would like to get in on that.

This palette is a BARGIN at $6 and has transformed SD me into an HD version of myself. This palette has two colors that you can choose from (or mix together) as well as two different highlighters (one with a yellow undertone and one with a pink undertone). These bad boys are HELLA pigments and you don’t need a bunch to get the job done so hellz to the yeah on that front as well. The packaging is a matte black case and it also comes with a generous mirror, all in all this product from e.l.f is a home run on all accounts.

I forgot to swatch this palette (I wish I had an excuse but I literally just forgot…) but here is an image of the palette:
